Frequently Asked OGL Questions

Welcome to our OGL FAQs Section

Here, you'll find answers to most of your questions about Operation Green Light, including eligibility, payment options, participation details, and more. Please review this information carefully before reaching out to our support team.

1. What is a traffic violation?
A traffic violation refers to any breach of traffic laws, which can include speeding, running a red light, DUI (Driving Under the Influence), and driving without a valid license, among others.
2. What should I do if I receive a traffic ticket?
If you receive a traffic ticket, you should read it carefully, pay attention to the deadlines, and consider options such as paying the fine, attending traffic school, or contesting the ticket in court.
3. Can I set my citation for court?
Yes, if you set a court date within 30 days of receiving your ticket, you can do so without making any payment. After 30 days, a $16 fee will be applied. You can request your court date over the phone by calling 305-275-1111, online at www2.miamidadeclerk.gov/trafficapp/ , or in person at any of our locations. Once your ticket is officially scheduled for court, you've fulfilled the court's requirements, and no payment is necessary while you await your court date. Generally, you can expect to receive your court date within 4 to 6 weeks, although there may be occasional delays.
4. What are the penalties for traffic violations?
Penalties can vary widely depending on the violation. They may include fines, points on your driving record, community service, or even jail time for more serious offenses like DUI.
5. How many points can you get on your Driver’s License, and how does it work?
The Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) point system assigns points to your driving record for different violations. If you accumulate 12 points within 12 months, your license will be suspended for 30 days. It’s important to drive responsibly to avoid these consequences. You can visit www.flhsmv.gov for more information.
6. What is traffic school, and how does it work?
Traffic school is a program designed to educate drivers about safe driving practices. Completing traffic school may help reduce points on your record or prevent a ticket from affecting your insurance rates. To register for traffic school, visit the Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles by clicking this link register for traffic school for a listing of school providers or by searching on the web.
7. What happens if I do not pay my traffic ticket?
If you fail to pay a traffic citation, your driver's license will likely be suspended. This suspension can lead to additional penalties, such as late fees. In serious cases, unpaid tickets can result in legal action, including a warrant for your arrest, if the matter is referred to collections or a court order is issued to collect the debt. It's crucial to address any traffic citations promptly to avoid these consequences.
8. I paid for my ticket and went to traffic school. Why is my license getting suspended?
The traffic school certificate was not uploaded to www.myflcourtaccess.com/authority/, leading to points being added to the license. To correct this and avoid suspension, you can pay the fee for incomplete traffic school and submit a motion with the completion certificate. This will help facilitate the removal of points from the license.
9. Where can I upload my compliance Citation?
To upload compliance documents, visit www.myflcourtaccess.com/authority/.You will need to create an account. If they require assistance with account creation or uploading documents, you can easily reach the e-portal support number at 850-577-4609.
10. I want to pay for proof of registration, insurance, or a driver’s license citation without providing proof. I tried paying online, but it does not allow me.
Citations require proof of a valid driver's license, insurance, and vehicle registration. If you no longer own the vehicle, you must fill out an affidavit of non-compliance. Additionally, a $181.00 courtesy fee applies for the guilty plea and waiver. Please note that we cannot accept the guilty plea and waiver for proof of insurance citations.
11. Is court through Zoom or in person?
Most court dates are conducted via Zoom. To participate, enter the meeting ID provided in the notice you received. You can also attend the hearing by calling the Zoom number 786-635-1003. We look forward to your participation.

Simply complete the request for a court hearing form on our website, https://www.miamidadeclerk.gov/library/traffic/894-Web.pdf, and upload it to the e-filing portal, www.myflcourtaccess.com/authority. The Parking Operations Department is responsible for administrating functions such as collecting payments and setting citations for court. The Parking Operations Department does not issue citations. 6. There is a stop on my tag registration.
A stop on the renewal of a registration can happen when there are three or more past due citations, or one disabled citation, on vehicles under an owner’s name. A report is sent to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to deny renewal of the vehicle registration and license tag of any vehicle registered to the owner until the citations have been paid. You can pay your citations online to obtain a release to lift the registration stop. You may use our Parking Service Assistant at: Parking Service Assistant

Please note that if your registration stop is due to unpaid tolls you will need to contact Sun Pass.
For more information visit: Sun Pass

Bonds can be requested at our main office:
Parking Operations Department
73 W. Flagler Street room 137

11. I paid for parking (or have a parking permit) and still received a citation.
If you paid for metered parking on Pay-By-Phone, ParkMobile, or another app and still received a parking citation, please see below:

Municipal Review
Although the Clerk of the Court and Comptroller does not issue parking citations, we manage all parking citations issued by law enforcement officers and parking enforcement specialists of Miami-Dade County, as well as those issued by municipalities enforcing the Miami-Dade County Parking Code. This includes overseeing citation processing, payment collection, and related compliance procedures to ensure adherence to the county's parking regulations.

Parking meters in Miami-Dade County are managed by individual cities/municipalities. If you believe you received a parking citation in error for non-payment at a metered space, please check the following:
1. Tag Accuracy: Ensure the tag on your receipt matches the tag on the citation. You are responsible for entering the correct tag when paying. If the tags don’t match, the citation is valid.
2. Payment Time: Verify the time on your receipt. If the citation was issued before or after the paid time, the citation is valid.
3. Zone Accuracy: Different cities have different parking zones and rates. If you paid for a different zone than where you parked, the citation is valid.

If you still believe the citation is incorrect, you have 3 options:
1. Contact the issuing city for faster results:
    • City of Miami
    • City of South Miami
    • City of Coral Gables

2. Request a Municipality Review with our office:
The Clerk of the Court and Comptroller will collect all necessary information from you and forward it to the appropriate municipality for review. Please email parkingmuni@miamidade.gov with the following information:
    - In the subject line, include your citation number and the words 'Muni Review'
    - Attach a copy of your parking receipt/Parking Permit
    - Attach a copy of your parking citation
Note: If the tag on your receipt does not match the tag on the citation, your request will be rejected.

3. Request a court hearing:
You may request a court hearing within 30 days of the citation's issue date. Visit our Parking Citations web page for more information.
12. Disabled space parking citation but I have a disabled placard.
A citation issued for parking in a disabled space can be dismissed with a $7.50 fee and an affidavit. Follow this link to the affidavit and return it with a copy of the valid disabled registration and the ID of the placard owner. https://www.miamidadeclerk.gov/library/Parking/264-Web.pdf

Note that if found guilty, the judge will determine the fine amount to be paid and court costs, if any up to $100.

Parking Operations Department
73 W. Flagler Street room 137
Miami, Florida 33130
Or send a copy by email to parkingorders@miamidadeclerk.gov with a callback number and a cashier will contact you to take the payment.
